During my nearly 20 year residency in the UK, I regularly went out on Saturday
rambles across the English countryside with a group of like-minded friends. These delightful excursions not only kept body and spirit in shape, but my patient comrades were always very gracious about pausing while I photographed the picturesque scenery
for future paintings. I also made a practice of carrying my camera with me when
I went into London so I could gather material for some urban scenes, especially
photos of the lush, green parks with the magnificent London Plane trees.

“A PLACE TO REFLECT ON PAST AND FUTURE”
Chipperfield
Oil on Canvas
20” x 24”
SOLD

Chipperfield is a small village in Buckinghamshire with not much more than a few
homes, a churchyard, and a couple of pubs, in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Some children were playing soccer on the village green when I spied a boy
watching them from the branch of a tree above an elderly gentleman viewing the
game from a bench on the sidelines. The composition appealed to me, as did the
subjects, who were perhaps contemplating their own future and past exploits
on the field. I was also drawn by the symbolism of the many branches of the tree,
like the many choices we may make or paths we might have taken in our lives.

“REGENT’S CANAL”
Oil on Canvas
18” X 24”
$1,650

This section of the Grand Canal borders Regent’s Park in London next to Camden Town. Down along the towpath it is so peaceful one can hardly believe that the zoo
is practically within stone’s throw and that a thriving metropolis is bustling all around. The soft light, serenity, and the color of the gently rocking boats inspired me
 to paint this picture.

“HOUSE ON THE RIVER CHESS”
Duncan’s Mill
Oil on canvas
16” x 20”
$975

This bit of Buckinghamshire countryside was not far from my home in Pinner,
Middlesex. The Chess river burbles along through lovely rolling green hills dotted
here and there with centuries-old cottages quaintly endowed with names like “The Old Cart & Horse Cottage”. Not too far down the river is a watercress farm, and the house
in the painting sits on the site of an old mill. I painted this scene in very early spring, before the foliage of the trees completely blocked my view of the house.

“TEA IN THE GARDEN”
Pinner
Oil on canvas
18” x 24”
$1,350

This was a view of my back garden in Pinner, Middlesex, where I lived for 11 years.

“COOKHAM ROWERS”
Cookham
Oil on Canvas
14” x 18”
$850

A beautiful area along the banks of the Thames and a favorite stretch of river
 for local rowing clubs.
